KC-14 & KC-18 Relay Does it All
Other Technical Articles
Rockwell International - Collins Avionics and Communications Division makes extensive use of Kilovac relays in the CU-2314 (V) / ARC-190 antenna coupler family.
Kilovac s new KC-14 & KC-18 vacuum relay is ideal for applications needing both high voltage isolation AND power switching. Now, one relay is capable of performing both tasks.
The KC-14 & KC-18 is mechanically identical to and is a form-fit replacement for the popular KC-8; the difference is improved load switching and longer life. Engineered with an internal shield and solid tungsten contacts, the KC-14 & KC-18 and its cousin the KC-18 are the only relays specifically designed for both high voltage isolation and power switching. This means a longer relay life than other high voltage relays in all load switching applications.
The KC-14 & KC-18s ability to isolate up to 15kV while handling power switching for large loads also provides added relay protection in isolate-only applications. Accidental load switching can occur from such events as a fault condition or an operator mistakenly opening a door. The KC-14 & KC-18 s hot switching capability guards against relay destruction in this type of incident.
The KC-14 & KC-18 can do it all. It is an evolutionary improvement to a proven product, says Jim Lanum, Product Marketing Manager. Already in stock, the KC-14 & KC-18 is available with the same coil options as the KC-8 and the KC-12.

Switching Under Load:
Switching below or equal to 500V:
Relay may be on either side of the load, and the base may be floating or grounded.
Switching above 500V:
Relay must be on the ground side of the load. Base must be grounded .
